It’s no secret that women more than ever desire more rounded, shapely, and larger buttocks. Some of us have made great strides  in achieving an hourglass figure via a strict diet and targetted exercises. However in many cases a healthy lifestyle alone won’t deliver the results you truly desire. At Elements Spa, board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon Dr. Adibfar and his astute team are able to deliver results that patients crave via fat transfer to the buttocks or a Brazilian Butt Lift (or BBL).

Let’s take a closer look at what fat transfer to the buttocks entails!

Fat transfer essentially involves taking fat from one area of the body (where it is unwanted) and utilizing it in an area of the body where more fat is desired (ie. the buttocks). This fat is used to give the female patient enhanced contours, and a more shapely and hourglass silhouette.

Typically patients undergoing fat transfer to the buttocks have excess fat removed from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, upper, and lower back and/or thighs. Liposuction is safely used to remove the excess fat and the fat is then filtered and separated in order to leave only the cleanest and healthiest fat cells for reintroduction into the body. The fat cells are then carefully injected into the buttocks using a cannula and board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon’s Dr. Adibfar’s specialized injection and contour techniques. After injection, Dr. Adibfar uses customized bandages and compression garments to cover the body and buttocks and promote a more swift recovery.

Recovery after fat transfer to the buttocks is fairly straightforward. With Dr. Adibfar’s post-treatment self-care instructions and compression garments patients typically can return to light physical activities up to one week and more physicaly demanding exercises after a few weeks. Patients experience varied bruising and swelling in the buttocks after treatment which decreases over a few days. Dr. Adibfar can also prescribe added pain medication if needed.

Over the next few weeks and months, patients begin to see more obvious results. It does take more time for the transferred fat cells to acclimate to the body so patience is required. Patients will be happy to hear that results from fat transfer are long-lasting as long as patients adhere to Dr. Adibfar’s detailed post recovery instructions and do best to maintain their results.

Generally speaking, the best candidates for fat transfer to the buttocks are in good health, don’t smoke, and avoid drastic weight fluctuations. This will ensure more stable results including a higher survival rate of the transferred fat cells.
