We’re all looking for more natural ways to combat aging while looking younger, fresher and more attractive. In some cases, the best route is plastic surgery. However, for those who don’t require extensive correction and would prefer a more noninvasive anti-aging treatment, look no further! Platelet-Rich Plasma treatments, also known as PRP, are becoming increasingly popular among celebrities, socialites and busy professionals. PRP originated as treatments used to heal wounds, injured tendons, muscles and joints. PRP was also commonly treated for sports injuries. Years later PRP was discovered in medical esthetics and cosmetics for its ability to provide incredible healing and rejuvenation. Let’s take a closer look!

PRP is a substance made from your blood to trigger healing. It’s a relatively simple nonsurgical treatment emerging from cutting edge technology combined with the body’s natural ability to heal itself. The concentration of platelets contains growth factors and hormones that jumpstart healing and tell the tissues to rebuild and enhance. When injected, PRP stimulates a mild inflammatory response which triggers healing, leading to increased blood flow, new cell growth, collagen formation, and tissue regeneration. The blood used is your own, allowing for less (if any) risk of infection or blood disease. A sample of blood is taken from a vein in your arm, which is then placed in a test tube in a centrifuge device. The blood is spun to separate the blood cells from plasma allowing for a concentration of platelets. This increased concentration of platelets contains healing growth factors, and when injected, provides a significant improvement in skin and hair quality.

At Elements Spa, board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon Dr. Adibfar (and his medically-trained staff) use PRP to treat skin and hair loss. If you are unhappy with the quality of your skin, PRP can help treat numerous skin concerns including textural flaws, scarring, acne and blemishes, fine lines and more! We prefer two to three facia[1] l applications — sometimes referred to as the Vampire Facial. In the first application, after cleaning the skin thoroughly, we apply the PRP with a special patented injection and micro needling machine, which does not cause any pain. This  machine allows thousands  of micro channels of the injected PRP deep into the layers of the skin to regenerate the cells . This is followed by a gentle topical application and massage of the PRP over the skin in order to act as biological bandage. After a small series of sessions, patients find their skin looks and feels smoother, tighter, with pores and wrinkles reduced, and more radiant skin with increased collagen production.

We also use PRP injections for hair regeneration. Dr. Adibfar is certified to treat all types of hair loss. After a blood analysis, the reason for possible hair loss is determined. Then Dr. Adibfar can advise whether PRP is the best avenue. Patients often use PRP to treat gaps in their eyebrows, beards, and/or scalps. In this application, blood is drawn and spun identically. Numbing cream may be applied and injections are placed into the scalp or other problem areas. After a series of treatments, patients begin to notice fuller regrowth, narrowed gaps, and thicker ponytails.

PRP proves that some of the best results come from our body’s form of regenerative medicine via self-healing mechanisms. PRP allows the skin to heal, as well as can tell hair to stimulate new growth and stem cells. PRP is a very straightforward and safe procedure that allows for remarkable results that our patients love!
