Why Botox Is The Best Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

An important topic regarding Botox and wrinkles

Almost everyone’s heard of Botox. Some praise it while others fear it may cause them to look ‘overdone,’ ‘plastic’ or ‘Spock-like.’ At Toronto’s Elements Spa, board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon Dr. Adibfar—and his team of astute medically-trained staff—strongly believe that anything that would visually point out that a procedure has taken place would be a sure indication of a poor treatment. When administered properly, Botox should leave patients looking like a more refreshed, rested and rejuvenated version of themselves. Who wouldn’t want that, right?

While Botox is most well known for its remarkable ability to reverse signs of aging by addressing deep creases and wrinkles (that may also cause an individual to look disgruntled), the majority of clients tend to forget its unique ability to prevent wrinkles or lines from ever forming!

If you don’t know already, Botox is an incredibly safe injectible neurotoxin (manufactured under sterile conditions) that temporarily stops or prevents muscle function to the targeted muscle. When injected to the muscle, Botox blocks the nerve signals causing diminished muscle function. As a result, the intended muscle softens and relaxes, causing the skin to smooth while reducing the look of lines and wrinkles. Some of the more common areas patients receive Botox is between the eyes (targeting frown or glabellar lines), on small lines on the bridge of the nose (sometimes called bunny lines), along any lines across the forehead, on the sides of the eyes (targeting crow’s feet), along vertical lines above the upper lip, as well as in the chin to address dimpling and howling.

Patients may find these lines and creases unappealing not only because they add extra years to their actual age, but also because the appearance of these lines can give the impression of the person constantly appearing angry, distressed, exhausted and lacking vitality. For these patients, they not only get the benefit of reduced lines, but also a generally more relaxed, refreshed and content appearance that comes across to peers as happy, at ease and fulfilled.

While all this sounds fantastic, one of the best qualities that Botox possesses is its preventative potential. When muscles are paralyzed, this prevents them from having the strength to contract or crease, weakening their overall potential to create new or more lines and wrinkles in the face. This proves itself to be a more efficient and effective anti-wrinkle treatment then any luxury skin care brand on the market. Simply put, if your skin does not have the ability to wrinkle, it won’t. For this reason, many young patients (including millennials) are opting for Botox at minimal quantities to prevent any bothersome lines, creases and/or wrinkles from forming down the line. These injected muscles will never get the opportunity to grow stronger or create deeper lines. After serving and continuing to serve satisfied returning patients, at Elements Spa we strongly believe that the best type of anti-aging is prevention, as it best controls skin conditions from worsening or ever appearing in the first place.

It is important to note that Botox is not a permanent solution. No treatment can ever halt the aging process altogether. However with safe and effective treatments such as Botox, we can age more gracefully while continuing to take care of our skin and bodies. Depending on the age and skin condition of the patient, the first Botox injection can last anywhere between 3-4 months (with some patients reporting more long-term results). Patients are then asked to return after this period for maintenance which, over time, does get stretched out further, allowing patients to receive maintenance injections every 6 months, and possibly every 9 months and so on.
