If you’re looking to accentuate your lower half with a cosmetic procedure but don’t know which direction is right for you, look no further! In this article, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Brazilian Butt Lift and complimentary procedures to get you the hourglass shape you’ve always wanted!

In recent years, a developing interest in bigger and rounder buttocks led to the development of various plastic surgeries and augmentation techniques that allow the ability to customize procedures to each patient seeking a more voluptuous silhouette. Patients typically come into our office and ask whether buttocks implants or fat transfer are more ideal, as well as what to expect from both procedures. For obvious reasons, no one patient is alike, which means that the Brazilian Butt Lift and/or implants are not ‘one-fits-all’ type procedures. Also, these two procedures tend to work brilliantly together to provide patients with optimal results. Let’s take a closer look at both buttocks implants and fat transfer.

Buttocks implants are typically round or tear drop shaped silicone implants that are inserted inside the gluteal muscle to give patients more projection. They tend to be a lot firmer than breast implants (as they need to be able to sustain the body’s weight for obvious reasons like when sitting) and are inserted discreetly with small incisions made just along the intergluteal cleft. As mentioned, the implants provide projection and the procedure itself is more predictable. Patients will need anywhere between 2-3 weeks to recover as the implants need time to acclimate to the body without any added pressure of sitting. For patients with little to no excess fat on their body, buttocks implants prove the optimal choice for added volume to the patient’s lower half.

Fat transfer to the buttocks is a two-step process which begins with liposuction. Dr. Adibfar begins by removing excess fat from unwanted areas such as the flanks, thighs and abdomen. Once concentrated, the fat is then re-introduced to the buttocks where the majority of the cells will survive, add volume and contour the buttocks. Patients find this especially beneficial as they get to remove unwanted fat from pesky areas and gain more shape where they want it most by utilizing their own body fat! For those desiring a more curvaceous shape, board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon Dr. Adibfar skillfully removes the fat from the waist and abdomen to reveal a smaller, more hourglass shape.

If a patient is a good candidate for both procedures, using both the buttocks implants and fat transfer can provide absolutely beautiful results. Dr. Adibfar begins by placing the implants in the buttocks. Once placed, Dr. Adibfar continues with liposuction and removes any excess fat that will later be used reintroduced to the buttocks. This added fat is re-injected around the implant to make curves—and the transition between the body and the implant—smoother. Patients have been very happy with the results of these complimentary procedures. The fat transfer can also be injected at various depths and areas to supplement the implant.
